A 72-year-old grandmother from Castle Douglas has won a £4 million mortgage-free mansion in Cornwall, along with £250,000 in cash, after entering an Omaze prize draw for £15.
According to Times of India World, a 72-year-old grandmother from Castle Douglas, Scotland, has won a £4 million coastal mansion in Cornwall after entering an Omaze prize draw with a £15 subscription. Mary Dickson, who lives in a terrace house in Scotland, initially nearly missed the life-changing news because she frequently ignores calls from unknown numbers.
According to the Times of India, Dickson was brought to a reveal location by Omaze representatives, where she was briefly confused by the presence of a horse on the property. "The first thing I saw when I turned the corner was a horse. I said thanks but no thanks! Then I realised I’d actually won a house, not a horse," Dickson said. The property does feature stables, though the couple confirmed they have no intention of taking up horse ownership.
The prize package includes the four-bedroom, mortgage-free mansion situated near the fishing village of Coverack on the Lizard Peninsula, along with £250,000 in cash and £200,000 worth of furnishings. The home features panoramic sea views, a heated swimming pool with a swim-up bar, an outdoor kitchen, and direct access to Porthbeer Cove. Stamp duty and legal fees are fully covered.
Dickson, who has been married to 76-year-old husband John since 2017, began entering Omaze draws after a former colleague won a property in 2023. The couple stated they have no immediate plans to sell the home and intend to host family there for the upcoming Christmas holiday.
This draw was conducted in partnership with the charity Wellbeing of Women. According to Omaze, the initiative guaranteed £1 million for the organization, with an additional £3.5 million committed through a multi-year grant. Omaze founder and CEO Matt Pohlson stated that the company was "over the moon" for the winners, noting that the Omaze community has raised more than £150 million for good causes across the UK to date.
